Oral cancer is on the rise in America. It is a serious condition that has effected approximately 43,000 Americans this year. Oral cancer looks like a small growth or sore in the mouth. It can be located on the lip, tongue, cheeks, sinus, throat or on the hard or soft pallet.

Early detection is the best known safe guard for fighting oral cancer. A screening will detect any oral abnormalities. Early detection ensures the least invasive treatment and the best prognosis for a positive outcome.

The Most Common Symptoms of Oral Cancer:

  • Lumps-bumps or rough spots anywhere in or on the mouth
  • Bleeding in the mouth
  • Numbness or tenderness on the face or the mouth
  • Sores that bleed and do not heal
  • Ear pain
  • Dramatic and un expected weight loss
  • White, red or speckled patches in the mouth
  • Change in the fitting of dentures

Although, oral cancer is closely associated with smoking and tobacco use over 25% of cases of oral cancer are those who are not smokers or tobacco users.

Risk Factors for Developing Oral Cancer:

  • SMOKING
  • Dip, snuff, or chewing tobacco
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Excessive sun exposure
  • Family history of cancer
  • HPV-10 virus exposure
